Mouse







Problem

Mouse not detected.

Remedy

Check the mouse connection to a computer it’s properly connected or not.

Check for any physical damages of the keyboard cable.

Check the mouse drivers are installed correctly.

If mouse is ps/2 mouse first check the port where the mouse is connected. Is it wrong first correct this.

If mouse is ps/2 mouse check any pin is bent or broken. if any pin is bent straiten it and connect.

If mouse is serial port mouse, check ports in system properties.

If the problem persists replace the mouse by a new one.



Problem



The mouse pointer is suddenly lost.



Remedy



  1. Check the mouse is connected and the connecting cable is not damaged.


  2. If it is a standard mouse, check for dirt on the ball.


  3. Check for any rough uneven surface on the mouse pad.


  4. Change the mouse pad.


  5. Check the mouse.


  6. If the mouse is not okay, then detach it from the computer.


  7. Open the mouse and inspect the inside of mouse.


  8. Observe if any wire is disconnected from the mouse PCB.


  9. If any wire is removed, fix it.


  10. In the case of an optical mouse, observe the lens / optical assembly.


  11. Clean the dust on the optical assembly.


  12. Use a good mouse pad (non-reflective).


  13. Now the mouse pointer will work and not disappear.




Problem



The left button and right button functions are interchanged.



Remedy



  1. Windows allows for reconfiguring the buttons.


  2. In the control panel, under mouse properties we can change the mouse button assignments.


  3. This is for the user’s convenience.


  4. Use this facility for left-handed users.


  5. For normal users, change the button assignments to normal condition.


Problem



Mouse pointer moves only in a horizontal or a vertical direction.



Remedy



  1. Check whether any pin in the connector is damaged.


  2. Check whether the driver is installed correctly.


  3. Check any virus infection, using antivirus software.


  4. Clean the dust / dirt in the sensor for horizontal / vertical motions.


  5. Observe the wheels for any physical damage.


  6. If the sensor is faulty, replace either the sensor or replace the mouse.


  7. Now the mouse pointer will move properly.






Problem



There is an USB mouse. After installing a new serial port card in a PCI slot, the mouse is not working.



Remedy



  1. Check whether the mouse is connected to the USB port.


  2. Check whether the drivers are properly installed for both the mouse and the add-on serial port.


  3. Check the device property page of the serial port card.


  4. Check the IRQ assignments for the serial port card.


  5. If the PCI card and the USB mouse take the same IRQ or memory settings, then change settings of any one.


  6. If it is not easy to modify the resource settings, then switch off the computer.


  7. Remove the power connection.


  8. Open the cabinet.


  9. Remove the new PCI card. Switch on the computer after connecting the mouse.


  10. Confirm if the mouse is working.


  11. Now switch off the computer. Install the PCI card in another slot.


  12. Switch on the computer to verify the functioning of the mouse and the PCI card.


  13. Now the mouse will work normally.
