Problem The computer boots normally, but behaves erratically after some time. Remedy The power supply may not be able to support the load inside the computer. The internal fan in the SMPS could have failed and excessive heat inside the SMPS might have caused the erratic output voltages. Check whether the SMPS fan is functioning. If the fan is okay, then switch off the power. Remove the power cable and open the cabinet.. Check the SMPS output voltages, after connecting the power cable and switching on the computer. Problem System restarts after installing a PCI card.   Remedy Switch off the computer. Remove the power cable. Remove and re-install the PCI card, in another slot. Check the computer for normal operation. If the problem persists, remove the PCI card and install and check in another computer. If the test computer works normally, then it may be because of compatibility issues. Replace this PCI card by another, after consulting which version of PCI the motherboard supports. Check whether the hard disk power and data cables are connected properly. Change the hard disk power cable and check if it is identified in the CMOS setup.
